Recent changes to Greece’s tax administration have created a common question for businesses, professionals and individuals:<\/p>

\u201cWhy does myAADE now show KEFODE instead of my local tax office (DOY)?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>

The change is part of a broader restructuring by Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), designed to centralise and modernise tax administration.<\/p>

The short answer is important: local tax offices in Attica and Thessaloniki were not simply renamed \u201cKEFODE\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>

Instead, taxpayers and key tax responsibilities previously handled by individual DOY offices were transferred to centralised Tax Procedures and Service Centres (KEFODE)<\/strong>. At the same time, the former local tax offices were renamed Taxpayer Service Units (YFE)<\/strong>.<\/p>

As a result, a taxpayer who previously belonged to a local tax office such as Marousi, Glyfada or Kallithea may now see KEFODE Attica<\/strong> listed as the competent tax authority in their records.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

KEFODE (\u039a\u0395\u03a6\u039f\u0394\u0395)<\/strong> stands for:<\/p>

Kentro Forologikon Diadikasi\u00f3n kai Exypiretisis \u2013 Tax Procedures and Service Centre.<\/strong><\/p>

KEFODE offices are centralised units of AADE that have taken over tax procedures and responsibilities that were previously handled separately by individual local tax offices.<\/p>

The restructuring includes responsibilities relating to taxpayer compliance, taxpayer relations and certain registry functions.<\/p>

There are currently two main KEFODE centres:<\/p>

KEFODE Attica<\/strong> and KEFODE Thessaloniki<\/strong>.<\/p>

AADE currently lists KEFODE as a distinct category of tax service alongside local tax offices, Taxpayer Service Units (YFE), Capital Tax Centres (KEFOK) and Assessment and Collection Centres (KEVEIS).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

When did Greek tax offices change to KEFODE and YFE?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The main organisational reform was established through AADE Decision D.ORG.A 1036330 EX 2024\/27-03-2024<\/strong>.<\/p>

The reform was more extensive than a simple name change. It provided for the new structure and responsibilities of KEFODE Attica and Thessaloniki, the transfer of responsibilities and taxpayers from local tax offices, and the renaming of tax offices in Attica and Thessaloniki as Taxpayer Service Units (YFE)<\/strong>.<\/p>

Implementation was gradual.<\/p>

The transition began in Attica in 2024<\/strong>, while the corresponding restructuring in Thessaloniki was completed later, in 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

KEFODE Attica began operating on 17 June 2024.<\/strong><\/p>

From that date, taxpayers and responsibilities of Attica tax offices were progressively transferred to the new centralised centre.<\/p>

The transition took place in several phases:<\/p>

AADE announced the completion of this phase of the integration into KEFODE Attica on 22 July 2024.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

No. This is an important distinction.<\/p>

Technically, the former local tax offices were not renamed KEFODE<\/strong>.<\/p>

Instead:<\/p>

while:<\/p>

Taxpayer + centralised tax responsibilities \u2192 KEFODE<\/strong><\/p>

For example, AADE no longer presents Attica’s former local tax offices in the same way they operated before the reform. Instead, local service functions are provided through numbered Taxpayer Service Units.<\/p>

This distinction explains why a taxpayer may see KEFODE Attica<\/strong> in myAADE even though a local service unit continues to operate in their area.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Thessaloniki followed Attica, but the transition took considerably longer.<\/p>

Although the original organisational decision in March 2024 already provided for KEFODE Thessaloniki<\/strong>, its implementation was postponed.<\/p>

The centre officially began operating on 27 July 2026<\/strong>, according to an AADE announcement published on 24 July 2026.<\/p>

The transition was completed in phases.<\/p>
